Three months and a half

I have abandoned my blog for almost three weeks. Without trying to look for excuses, I should say that it's been quite a difficult time for me and my family. One reason--it was apparent that the last two weeks of summer Irina and Dmitri had been especially struggling to cope with the situation and it was very painful to watch that, not being able to offer any kind of light at the end of the tunnel except a hope that the things should turn around. Another reason--these recent three weeks were packed with events. On September 1, Member of Parliament from NDP Hon. Peter Julian had a press conference in the First Lutheran Church regarding delays in releasing my personal files from RCMP, CBSA and CSIS. Also, we had been working on preparing the church for the benefit concert scheduled for September 12, which had to be cancelled just five days before it due to the flooding in the basement after a thirty minute waterfall-like rain that happened early evening on Labour Day. That rain overwhelmed the city's drainage system and about two hundred homes in the area were flooded. All last week several volunteers including me had been moving furniture and various stuff from the basement to the main floor, trying to organize things and make the best use of the space. On September 10, there was a hearing in the Federal Court of my application for Judicial Review of the decision made by the Minister of Public Safety. From several people who were able to attend the hearing I heard that the lawyer representing the Minister reportedly said that the Government didn't have an issue with me as a security risk which I find an extremely important statement. Starting this Monday, life at the First Lutheran began coming back to a more or less normal routine making it possible for me to return to my blog. The story of the two cats, Santosh and Onni, has a sudden ending and I am going to finish it in my next post.

  1. Nice to see you back posting. There is a ray of hope with the governments comment. This could mean that there is nothing to turn over to you. I think I saw the cats floating by my window.

  3. Hello from a first-time (I think) commenter.

I wanted to say, "Good luck, Mikhail!" I have written to the government twice about your situation, and I have sworn that I will not vote Tory (my usual bent) while you remain "inadmissible" to Canada. This is a promise, and I have been and will be true to my word in this. I hope that you will be given the legal relief you seek.

    Please continue to be strong.

Best wishes to you and your family,

    Nathan B.

  4. Please, you do not owe anyone an apology...this is real life for you and you are trying to cope with it.

During a very, very difficult time in my life I discovered a mantra that kept me going and I would like to share it with you:

    "Reality Check
Master my emotions instead of drowning in them. Use them to solve my problems with the tools I've got, the personality I've got, instead of going to pieces over the things that happen.

Remember, I cannot control what happens in my life. I can only control how I react to it. Keep all things in perspective."

Our thoughts and prayers remain with you and your family.

  5. Good afternoon, this blog is very interesting and you're a really talented writer. Just wanted to stop by the show my support for you and your family - I am ashamed that the Canadian government is treating you in such a way. I get the vibe that you are a peaceful man who looks for the best in people and it's disgusting that some people are so set on hating you without ever meeting you or really knowing anything about you. My thoughts are with you!!

PS I lived in Japan for a couple of years and have been learning the language for around 10 years. I'm still not fluent though and admire your ability to speak more than one language so eloquently!
